Kama Sutra Chai
Ancient Indian tradition holds that the Kama Sutra was authored by Maharishi Vatsyayana, who lived in India between the 1st and 6th centuries AD during the Gupta period. This era was marked by remarkable cultural and artistic growth. The Kama Sutra serves as a manual on the science of love, where “Kama” translates to desire and “Sutra” means a technical guide. The text presents various positions for, let’s say, “marital enjoyment,” with intriguing names like “the Cobra” and “Tigress.”
Interestingly, tradition also claims that Maharishi Vatsyayana was a celibate monk. How he conceived such sultry and stimulating ideas remains a mystery. Nonetheless, in the spirit of Vatsyayana’s ancient wisdom, we present this fabulous tea—a true melange of spices. Our Kama Sutra Chai features strong Indian and Kenyan teas blended with an age-old spice recipe that echoes the essence of the Kama Sutra.

Green Tea Chai
Chai holds a special place in the hearts of many in India and Sri Lanka, often regarded as the “national drink.” Imagine a bustling street scene where “tea wadis” serve steaming cups of chai to passersby. Just like coffee carts in North America, these tea vendors are a familiar sight. Picture a “tea wadi” cart, well-worn and full of character—perhaps a bit battered and dented. A charcoal fire keeps the water boiling, sending up wisps of steam and smoke. An old evaporated milk can brims with sugar, while another dented can holds the fragrant masala chai spices. The vendor, a skilled chai expert, deftly pours tea and milk from great heights, creating the perfect blend.
Once the tea and milk combine, it’s customary to add a generous amount of sugar for that authentic chai experience. Chai is brewed with milk and a mix of spices, with each recipe varying according to the ingredients used. The word “chai” simply means tea, while “masala” refers to the spice mixture—hence the term Masala Chai.

Vanilla Chai
Chai is an essential part of Indian culture, making it impossible to avoid while traveling through the Indian subcontinent. Even in places where fresh drinking water is scarce, you’ll hear the familiar call of a chai-wallah—“chayee! chayee!”—beckoning you to enjoy a cup.
While riding the trains in India, the chai wallah’s voice rings out at every stop, offering steaming cups of this beloved beverage. It’s not unusual for them to board trains in the middle of the night, waking passengers to sell chai. The drink arrives in small clay cups, which customers often toss out the windows after finishing. Traditional Indian chai typically features a robust black tea, often Assam, brewed in rich milk with spices like cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and pepper.

Dimbula and the western estates of Nuwara Eliya experience a peak quality period from January to February. In contrast, Uva and the eastern estates of Nuwara Eliya shine during July and August. This dual peak allows us to select the finest leaves for our flavored teas multiple times a year. The high-altitude districts produce Ceylon tea known for its classic character, featuring floral bouquets, a hint of astringency, and a bright coppery colour.
